Malaysia
Malaysia lies in the South East Asia territories; its capital is Kuala Lumpur and has a population of over 21 million people. The history of Malaysia is complicated and has been conquered many times, Malaysia as a unified country did not exist pre 1963, it only existed as a set of colonies after the British had gained control of the land in the late 18th century. Malaysia gained its independence in 1957 after much debate and since then it has strived to stamp its independence in the work as a unified Malaysia.
Malaysia has strive to be a useful in the worlds economy and politics as it participates in the United Nations as well as being a founding member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. As it was previously a British colony, it is also a member of the commonwealth of nations.
Malaysia is separated into two land masses by the South China Sea. Both West and East Malaysia share similar landscapes and features which are covered by forested hills and mountains.
The capital of East Malaysia is Kota Kinabalu in the state of Sabah whereas the West of Malaysia lies Kuala Lumpur.
The strait of Malacca, a former Portuguese colony is one of the most important shipping lanes in Asia. It lies in between Sumatra and Malaysia.
Malaysia is a multi-religious society but Islam is regarded as the official religion of the country. Because it is multi cultural, one can find a wide variety of foods available which is unique and wont find it anywhere else in Asia.
